York LGBT Wellbeing Group

LGBT Well-being Group

The group is an inclusive well-being support group for members of the LGBT community. It provides a social space where people can come together on a weekly basis and use art, music, drama or just peer talking to support their emotional well-being. Members can talk about feelings, thoughts in a space with others who can relate to them. This includes any challenges to them as individuals.

York Mind successfully won the tender to deliver Mental Health and Well-being Activities within the City of York in 2017.

The Activities Programme is funded by City of York Council for three years and reflects its commitment and investment in mental health provision and the early intervention and prevention agenda.

York Mind in partnership with Converge, Kyra, York Racial Equality Network, Survive, Sunshine Changing Lanes, York LGBT Forum, The Rowntree Society and Kindlewoods will deliver a range of activities in Year 2 of the programme from July 2018-June 2019.

Activities will run across the year, with staggered start dates and include guided learning such as conflict resolution, dealing with loneliness and isolation, vocational courses, facilitated peer support, specialist activities/training, woodland well-being sessions, social events and support groups.

York Mind will deliver guided learning including Mindfulness, Assertiveness, Hatha Yoga and Eating Well for Good Health, well-being and social activities including Arts and Craft groups, themed coffee afternoons and a weekly drop in Coffee Club. We shall be delivering a weekly LGBT wellbeing group
