Events

York has a small number of LGBT+ venues, and a growing number of regular events, groups and organisations. The guide below provides details of these, including brief descriptions and links to more information (or, in their absence, contact details). This guide is split into categories: pubs and clubs, regular events/groups, and fundraising events.

York LGBT Forum Film Festival

Film Poster-1.jpgThe Gymanst 26th April at the Basement 7pm for 7:30pm tickets £5 in advance, £6 on the door get your tickets from: http://www.thebasementyork.co.uk/thegymnast

Winner of 28 awards, The Gymnast explores the explosive relationship between two headstrong women – driven by their passion for excellence and, ultimately, each other. Already battling with a loveless marriage, Gymnast Jane (Dreya Weber, Lovely & Amazing) finds herself with little to live for after a devastating injury ends her competitive career but sparks soon fly when she finds herself drawn to an attractive female aerial performer. As the stunning pair join forces and prepares to audition their act for a Las Vegas show, the gravitational pull between the women becomes increasingly unavoidable. A visually stunning and intensely emotional experience, The Gymnast is a truly compelling lesbian love story fully deserved of its widespread acclaim..

Bear City 24th May at the Basement 7pm for 7:30pm tickets £5 in advance, £6 on the door get your tickets here: http://www.thebasementyork.co.uk/bear-city

Take the girls from “Sex and the City,” inject them with large amounts of testosterone, tape fur coats to their bodies – and you have something almost as great as BearCity. In this award-winning romantic comedy, viewers are given an insider pass to a burly, tight-knit group of New York City friends who are trying to make it through life’s twisted paths and love’s absurdities without getting lost. When twinkie newbie and closet bear chaser Tyler (Joe Conti) joins the gang, he has no idea the impact his new friends will have on his life. Invited to move in with the group’s very own “Yogi and Boo Boo,” Fred (Brian Keane) and Brent (Stephen Guarino, “The Big Gay Sketch Show”), Tyler becomes a fast staple. As in any good romantic comedy, our hot young lead needs a love interest; insert Roger (Gerald McCullouch) the hot Casanova of muscle bears. The film oozes with sexual tension. It spills over with comic relief added by full-of-heart, “Mama-Bear” Michael (Gregory Gunter), BearCity is a prime cut ofmovie-beef.
