Fundraisers for LGBT organisation in Uganda
York has a history of supporting LGBT rights in Uganda and pays tribute to David Kato, a Ugandan LGBT activist, who studied in York under a protected scholarship, but was murdered on his return to Uganda. We have held a fundraisers for a LGBT charity in Uganda in which we raised £1000 for the charity to go towards safe housing for LGBT people. We have many fundraisers throughout the year. We have also written to Dr John Sentamu Archbishop of York addressing the issues LGBT people face in Uganda.
Human Rights Defender Befrienders
Our chair Kevin Sell is looking to become a Human Rights Befriender at the University of York’s Applied Centre for Human Rights. We have worked with this organisation throughout the year and have had guest speakers from Bulgaria.

We have written to the Russian Embassy about the discriminatory laws against LGBT people in Russia.
Holocaust Memorial Day
We support Holocaust Memorial Day in York and sit on the steering committee and will be looking at historical persecution of LGBT people and ways to address the persecution of LGBT people today.
