LGBTQ+ films at the BAFTA-Recognised Aesthetica Short Film Festival.

The Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) held annually in York is screening a selection of LGBTQ+ short films to promote and advocate the LGBTQ+ community. The films cover a range of topics affecting the LGBTQ+ community and we are promoting equality and diversity throughout the entire festival.

ASFF is a hotbed for new talent and the festival is a cinematic playground taking place across 18 venues in the beautiful city of York. Films come from over 40 countries with some of them being shortlisted for the 2018 Oscars. It’s an important event to discover new talent and see the next generation of filmmaking.

The screenings are on the following days:
Thursday 9th November 7:30pm – 8:45pm: The best of LGBTQ shorts at York Theatre Royal Studios

Friday 10th November 11:45am- 1pm: The best of LGBTQ shorts at Yorkshire Museum

Everey year we remember those who have been unlawfully killed, and those who are no longer with us.

Saturday 25th November – Say Owt (spoken word and poetry) 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM: The Basement, 13 – 17 Coney Street, York, YO1 9QL

Say Owt kicked off in 2014 with a sizzling slam. Our first ever guest was Rogue Teacher Mark Grist, so we thought we’d bring him back for 2017 to once again prove why The Guardian called him “Britain’s Eminem.”

In a Slam, each poet gets 3 minutes for the chance to win a cash prize and become a Say Owt Champion, as judged by the audience. It’s fast and frantic and fun. Fancy a slot? Email info@sayowt.co.uk or visit our websitewww.sayowt.co.uk.

Mark went viral in 2012 when he beat a teenager in a rap battle. But long before this, Mark had quit his job as an English teacher to pursue performance poetry. Mark is a dedicated educator, his writing accessible and fun but also not afraid to tackle important subjects. He’s featured in numerous Don’t Flop rap battles. His commissions have included work for The Royal Institute, BBC Radio 1, Radio 1 Xtra, Channel 4, Film 4, Red Bull, The National Maritime Museum and Google.

Mark will be joined by loveable chum Tim Clare, one of the funniest and most frantic poets in the world. Tim’s stand-up poetry is a raw mixture of manic energy, surreal imagery and wonderous world-play.

Mark will also be leading a writing workshop 26th November at York Explore Library, 1-3pm.

Say Owt is supported by Arts Council England
